Job Summary
CBS News Streaming Network is seeking a Segment Producer to join its team at the New York City Broadcast Center. This role is responsible for researching, developing, and producing high-quality, compelling news segments in a fast-paced, live environment.
Responsibilities- Research, develop, and produce segments that incorporate robust editorial judgment, high-quality sound, graphics, maps, and banners.
- Collaborate with Executive Producers and Line Producers to write anchor questions and shape segment content.
- Coordinate closely with anchors and correspondents, providing detailed briefings on subject matter.
- Actively contribute in the control room during live broadcasts, ensuring smooth execution of segments.
- Pitch and refine timely, relevant, and compelling story ideas under tight deadlines.
- Exercise well-developed editorial judgment to identify stories with high potential for impactful storytelling.
- Participate in daily editorial meetings and contribute to show content development.
- Ensure compliance with standards, rights, and clearances in coordination with senior production staff.
- Maintain composure and professionalism in high-pressure, breaking news environments.
- Demonstrate well-developed control room awareness and adhere to established production protocols.
- Minimum of 5 years of newsroom experience.
- Well-developed background in journalism, including exemplary news judgment and critical thinking skills.
- Exemplary writing skills, including mastery of grammar, spelling, AP style, and broadcast writing.
- Proven ability to write clear, accurate, and engaging copy under deadline pressure.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive CBS News writing test.
- Experience with in a national broadcast, cable, or streaming news organization.
- Familiarity with ENPS or similar newsroom systems.
- Line producing experience.
- Deep knowledge of current events, including international, national, political, and cultural news.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments across both scheduled programming and breaking news coverage.
- Experience working in live television environments with tight turnaround times.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
- Well-developed understanding of political news and public affairs.
- Knowledge of digital and social media platforms and content strategy.
- Passion for emerging trends in digital and streaming media.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute meaningfully in both editorial planning and live production settings.
Monday – Friday, 5 days/week in the office (current schedule is afternoons to early evenings; schedule subject to change based on business needs). Must be flexible and available for on‑call shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required in a 24‑hour news operation.
Additional InformationHiring Salary Range: $89,960..
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
