Graphics Reporter

Job Description

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a Graphics Reporter to produce visual stories and drive innovative storytelling for digital audiences.

You will work on fast‑turnaround and longer‑term news and enterprise projects that span markets, finance, business, politics, technology, health and science.

You will bring strong ideas and collaborate with visual journalists, editors, and reporters to create information‑rich news graphics in various formats, including data visualizations, cartography, 3D, and illustration. This role is at the intersection of journalism, design, and technology.

You will be based in either our New York or Washington D.C. office and report to a visual editor.

• Identify and pitch opportunities for graphics on news topics that are editorial priorities or timely stories.
• Report, research, and create visual stories that may be original pitches, editor assignments, or collaborations with reporters.
• Develop smart approaches for visual stories across WSJ platforms and external sites.
• Review and provide feedback on other visual stories created in the department.
• Help reporters and editors learn new skills that enhance their visual storytelling.
• Work quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines.

• Prior experience in a newsroom or equivalent experience.
• Strong visual skills and demonstrable design knowledge (layout, typography, color, interaction design).
• 3+ years of front‑end development experience building interactive graphics, components or websites.
• Experience with D3, React, Svelte, and/or other modern web technologies.
• Strong experience with Adobe tools and ai2html.
• Good knowledge of responsive design, digital landscape technical nuances, and best practices for mobile stories.
• A creative vision and willingness to share and collaborate on new ideas.
• Initiative to take on and learn new skills.

Base Pay Range: $100,000 – $135,000
