Summary

The Digital Asset Archivist will be immersed in the day-to-day operations of the NHL’s media management processes. The candidate must possess an understanding of file-based workflows to oversee ingest of content into the digital asset management system and be highly knowledgeable on the history of the NHL. Reporting to the Manager, Digital Asset Archive, this position will support the needs of multiple internal departments and external organizations as a curator of historical content while also ensuring new material is properly archived, tagged, and categorized.

Essential

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Curate and add value to NHL’s historical archive of video, image, and document collections
  • Apply metadata to media assets to develop the archive into a robust, searchable tool for stakeholders
  • Adhere to policies and procedures for populating DAM systems and identify ways to improve workflows and efficiencies
  • Conduct in-depth research and identification of assets and elements within them to add value to the database
  • Coordinate sending and receiving assets to out-of-house vendors and ensure all media is properly digitized and ingested into the DAM system with corresponding metadata
  • Perform inventories of media assets within the NHL archive
  • Maintain a basic understanding of media library operations and learn to use internal databases for locating, tracking, and maintaining the security of tape and file-based assets
  • Role requirements may be modified or expanded as the role matures; candidates must be willing and eager to adapt quickly to changes
  • Additional projects and duties as dictated by changing business priorities
Qualifications

Knowledge Areas/Experience

Required

  • Vast knowledge of hockey history including players, teams, events, etc.
  • Background in television and/or sports industries a plus
  • Basic understanding of nonlinear editing tools such as Final Cut, Premiere, etc.
  • Strong computer and research skills
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Flexibility to work nights, holidays, and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work both in the NHL’s office and remotely as assigned

Preferred

  • One or more years of experience working in post-production, broadcast facility or sports organization preferred
  • Understanding of digital asset management systems and media library workflows a plus
  • General understanding of video codecs and tape formats preferred

Education/Certifications

  • Degree in broadcasting, information technology, sports management, library science, or similar field preferred

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Power Point
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence at leadership levels
  • Demonstrable proficiency in data analysis and assessment abilities
  • Highly organized, attention to detail and strong follow-through

Benefits and Compensation

The NHL offers U.S. regular, full-time employees a range of benefits and a salary range:

  • Salary Range: $55-60K

Actual base pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to experience/training, market demands, and geographic location.
