Assistant, Production Design

Summary

The Production Design team at Book of the Month is looking for a talented Production Design Assistant to work with us. We are a group of book lovers and design nerds who bring every Book of the Month and Allurial title to life. This role will report to the Manager of Book Design & Production and will help produce the books our members know and love.

This is a hands-on role where you'll learn something new every day, from the fundamentals of book making to the finer points of print production. You'll build press‑ready layouts, manage the proof‑approval workflow with our print partners, and develop quality relationships with stakeholders across the company. • Work with the Production Design and Editorial teams to produce high‑quality, press‑ready layouts/files.
• Demonstrate good time management and organizational skills to stay on‑schedule with your workload and consistently meet critical deadlines.
• Build critical relationships with key stakeholders throughout the company, and at the printers.
• Communicate with the printers to keep track of deadlines, delays, and QA issues.
• Oversee the proof‑approval process: downloading the proofs, routing them for team approvals, and communicating approval/revisions to the printer/s.
• Engage in training sessions and meetings with an eagerness to learn.

• You have 1–5 years of hands‑on print production design experience.
• You are proficient in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat.
• Bachelor’s degree in design, or a design‑related field, preferred.
• You have a strong interest in learning the ins‑and‑outs of book making. Experience in book‑making and/or publishing, preferred.
• You have a strong work‑ethic, and time‑management skills, allowing you to navigate heavy workloads and tight deadlines.
• You possess a growth mindset, and view receiving and applying feedback as an opportunity for growth.
• You communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues at all levels; both verbal and written communication.
• You have a sharp eye for detail, especially when it comes to design and production work.
• You are agile and able to pivot when there is a change in priorities, creative direction, or process.
• You understand the importance of following procedures, tracking your work in the appropriate places, and keeping your files up‑to‑date.
• You are passionate about good design and good books!

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000
