Job DescriptionPenguin Random House Audio, part of the Digital Publishing Group, is seeking a Production Assistant to join its Producer team. The Production Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting PRHA producers in the production of over 2,000 audio books per year and will perform day‑to‑day production tasks in accordance with PRHA’s high standards and dedication to achieving authors’ vision in audio.
We are looking for candidates who have a deep love of literature, a passion for performance, and a strong appreciation for the audio format. Ideal candidates will be detail‑oriented, highly organized, able to move quickly and efficiently between tasks, and possess excellent communication skills.
- Assist producers with text preparation for recording: generate word counts, extract pages for narrator parts, and adapt highly visual text.
- Preview‑read and analyze text for casting needs and provide casting assistance as needed, including conducting auditions through Ahab.us.
- Assist producers in the creation of supplemental materials for audio books: develop and organize additional content to enhance audiobook productions.
- Obtain music and text clearances and route contracts to secure necessary permissions for music and text usage.
- Schedule pickup sessions: coordinate with in‑house and external studios, narrators, and authors to arrange additional recording sessions.
- Review and approve credits to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Follow up on production‑related issues: communicate via email or phone with actors, authors, agents, and post‑production vendors.
- Enter selected titles into the production workflow and integrate specific titles into the production process efficiently.
- Provide general administrative support to the producer team to facilitate smooth production operations.
- Prior experience in publishing, audio content creation, or a related media environment is a strong plus.
- Strong analytical, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong organizational and project‑management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong teamwork ethic and ability to juggle tasks on multiple productions at the same time.
- Ability to operate in a high‑speed, high‑pressure environment with aggressive deadlines and many stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
This is an on‑site position with in‑office responsibilities five days a week. Candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri‑state area (NJ, CT, and NY), will also be considered.
The salary for this position is $55,000. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
