Responsibilities
- Produce video investigations that deconstruct critical moments, expose wrongdoing, and hold powerful people and institutions accountable through compelling visual products for multiple platforms.
- Conduct all aspects of story research and news gathering, including visuals—graphics, animations, or video—and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
- Set up and produce shoots, edit content, and oversee field assignment logistics such as determining locations, performing virtual site surveys, securing permissions, liaising with CNN security, managing the story budget, and supervising field teams.
- Develop story pitches, research investigative ideas, and participate in story brainstorming meetings.
- Research and secure interviews with individuals and sources who provide unique perspectives, pre‑interview potential characters, develop creative storytelling ideas, confirm facts, and gather research for production elements.
- Scripting and conceiving creative, dynamic graphics, including motion graphics and 3D animation when necessary.
- Work closely with producers, senior writers, reporters, and correspondents on video and written projects, and run own projects while overseeing all aspects of a story—including assignment, deadlines, coordination, and liaison with investigative leadership, programming, photo, and data visualization teams.
- Produce live segments, both in the field, studio, or remote network locations as needed.
- Uphold and advance CNN’s journalistic standards, ethics, and commitment to impactful storytelling.
- Minimum of 8 years of production experience in the news television industry or digital video journalism, with investigative reporting experience as a necessity.
- BA/BS in journalism, politics, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Strong news judgment and strong written, verbal, interpersonal communication, research, and production skills.
- Proficiency in OSINT methods and tools, including video verification, AI detection, geolocation, chronolocation, and metadata analysis.
- Experience in analyzing satellite imagery, marine and flight tracking, and other relevant data sources.
- Skilled at conceiving and overseeing production of motion graphics and animations, including 3D animation when necessary.
- Advanced scripting, storytelling, and editorial skills, with mastery of visual narrative techniques.
- Experience with filing FOIA requests.
- Willingness to travel as needed for reporting assignments.
