Job DescriptionComplex is searching for a talented and driven Video Editor to join their dynamic Post Production team. The role involves creating sharp, captivating edits for a variety of digital content, including You Tube series, social-first videos, sizzles, and sponsored content. A passion for cutting‑edge storytelling, fluency in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects & Photoshop, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced editorial environment are essential for this temporary freelance position, which may have the potential for extension.
Responsibilities- Edit full videos end-to-end for various formats including You Tube and social platforms.
- Craft high‑quality edits for long‑form news interviews, short‑form vertical video series with motion graphics, and brand‑specific sizzle reels.
- Apply advanced editing techniques like audio leveling, color correction, transitions, and GFX integration using Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, and Photoshop.
- Collaborate with producers to shape narratives aligned with Complex’s editorial tone and cultural voice.
- Manage diverse footage across different formats, frame rates, resolutions, and codecs.
- Maintain organized project structures, adhering to established naming conventions, media workflows, and archiving protocols.
- Optimize exports for platform‑specific technical specs while maintaining creative and editorial integrity.
- 4-8 years of experience editing digital‑first content, demonstrated through a reel featuring long‑form interviews, vertical video series, and sizzle reels.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, and strong skills in After Effects.
- A sharp eye for storytelling, pacing, rhythm, and visual polish, coupled with technical precision.
- Experience working under tight deadlines and managing multiple projects effectively and creatively.
- Familiarity with third‑party plugins (such as Maxon) and openness to experimenting with AI tools for image generation is a plus.
- A deep understanding of social platforms and their respective optimization best practices.
- A genuine interest in contemporary pop culture and appreciation for the diverse subject matter covered by Complex—music, fashion, sports, sneakers, internet culture, and entertainment.
- Clear, proactive communication skills and the ability to thrive in collaborative creative environments.
- Availability to work on‑site at the NYC office 5 days a week.
The pay range for this position is hourly and may vary based on factors including location, experience, and performance.
