The Daily Beast delivers award-winning original reporting and sharp opinions from big personalities in politics, pop culture, world news, and more. The Daily Beast is fiercely independent and reaches more than 20 million readers per month. The Daily Beast is seeking a full-time reporter for The Looker, our site exploring health, beauty, wellness, and longevity, eight months old and already a hit.

You will pitch and write stories (news, service, shopping/commerce) and create newsletters that inform, entertain, and engage. You will be based in our New York newsroom. You are detail-oriented and possess a deep curiosity for all things beauty and wellness—any topic related to how people live, look, and feel. You’re comfortable interviewing experts while meeting quick deadlines, learning to use new content platforms, reading peer-reviewed studies, and approaching everything with a skeptical eye.

You have an instinct for spotting cultural trends and are comfortable working with a brilliant team inside a larger newsroom.

• Pitch and write beauty, health, and wellness stories (news, shopping, features) that matter to our audience and write intelligent, engaging copy.
• Produce clean, concise, and accurate copy in a fast-paced environment using our CMS and Substack.
• Identify fresh angles and cultural moments that separate us from other outlets.
• Hit deadlines and stay on top of assignments, including timely news hits, service/evergreen content, and long-lead features.
• Incorporate SEO and analytics data into reporting when necessary, and without sacrificing voice or impact.
• Identify appropriate experts and original sources for stories, and be comfortable making calls and quickly turning around interviews.
• Represent The Looker/The Daily Beast at brand events and build relevant relationships in the industry.
• Request, catalog, and test product samples.
• Collaborate with our social team and appear in videos to promote stories as needed.
• Adhere to The Daily Beast’s rigorous standards and code of ethics.

• 1–3 years of experience reporting and writing for a major publication or outlet. Experience covering wellness, beauty, and/or health is a plus.
• A strong curiosity about topics that impact how people live, feel, and look.
• Familiarity with digital publishing and content management systems and/or willingness to quickly learn new content platforms, from Substack to Social Flow.
• Excellent writing and reporting skills, with the ability to balance voice and authority. An understanding of the role of visuals and video in storytelling.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to proactively identify and troubleshoot challenges.

The pay range for this position is $58,500-$65,000. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high ends of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including but not limited to work location, experience, performance, and other factors.
