Position: MS Now Technical Associate Stage Manager A2

Job Description The Opportunity

Versant Media Operations & Technology is seeking a Technical Associate to support MS Now’s live news operation. This role will primarily perform Stage Management and Studio Audio Assist—or A2—responsibilities across live, taped, and streaming productions.

As an essential member of the production team, you will help ensure each broadcast is executed safely, efficiently, and to a high technical standard. You will work closely with production, technical, and engineering partners to maintain clear communication between the control room and studio floor, prepare talent and equipment, and respond quickly when production needs change.

Why This Role Matters:

Your work will directly support the reliability, quality, and agility of MS Now’s live programming. By helping teams remain coordinated and production-ready, you will contribute to seamless broadcasts during regularly scheduled programming, breaking news, and other time-sensitive coverage.

This position is required to work on-site at Versant’s designated New York work location. Because MS Now operates around the clock, the role requires flexibility to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays based on production needs.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead Stage Management activities for live, taped, and streaming productions, ensuring talent, crews, sets, and studio elements are prepared and aligned before going on air.
  • Serve as Studio Audio Assist/A2 by preparing microphones, distributing and testing IFBs, managing cables, supporting talent setup, and partnering with the audio team throughout production.
  • Maintain clear, timely communication among the control room, studio floor, producers, directors, Technical Production Managers, and technical crews.
  • Prepare, configure, and strike studio equipment and production spaces while maintaining a safe, organized, and broadcast-ready environment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot studio and audio issues quickly, making sound decisions while remaining composed during high-pressure live productions.
  • Adapt to breaking news and evolving production requirements while developing capabilities across additional Technical Associate disciplines, which may include teleprompter, studio utility, and camera operations.

Qualifications

What You Bring
  • At least three years of experience as a Stage Manager, A2, or in a comparable role supporting live television, broadcast, or live‑event production.
  • Working knowledge of professional broadcast audio equipment, studio operations, production workflows, and studio‑floor communication protocols.
  • Experience preparing talent, microphones, IFBs, cables, and other studio equipment for live productions.
  • Strong troubleshooting, prioritization, and technical problem‑solving skills, with the ability to remain calm in time‑sensitive situations.
  • Clear verbal communication, strong interpersonal skills, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Interest in learning new technologies and expanding your skills across additional studio‑production disciplines.

You will also demonstrate Versant’s How We Do It behaviors:

  • Trust: Act with integrity, follow through on commitments, and help create a safe and dependable production environment.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate effectively across production, audio, lighting, camera, engineering, and editorial teams to achieve shared outcomes.
  • Transparency: Communicate clearly and promptly, particularly when identifying risks, technical issues, or changing production needs.
  • Agility: Adapt quickly to breaking news, schedule changes, evolving workflows, and the demands of live production.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Take initiative, embrace innovation, and look for practical ways to strengthen production processes and technical capabilities.

Experience supporting live news programming is preferred.

Why You’ll Love It Here

You will contribute directly to a fast-moving live news operation where strong technical execution, thoughtful collaboration, and sound judgment make an immediate impact. The role also offers opportunities to deepen your Stage Management and A2 expertise while gaining exposure to other studio‑production disciplines and emerging technologies.
