Location: New York
Key Responsibilities
- Mostly volunteer work towards paid
- Event Coverage:
Shoot high-quality photos and video at Freedom Lab NYC events, talks, and workshops. - Creative Privacy Execution:
Develop and execute visual strategies that highlight the community without exposing those who wish to remain private. (Think: focusing on hands typing, silhouettes, environmental shots, over-the-shoulder perspectives, and creative framing). - Post-Production:
Edit and produce engaging short-form (social media) and long-form (recaps, educational snippets) video content. Color grade, mix audio, and add motion graphics as needed. - Consent Management:
Implement and respect an visual consent system at events (e.g., specific lanyards, stickers, or designated zones for those who do and do not want to be filmed). - Secure Asset Management:
Handle all raw and edited media with strict operational security. Use encrypted drives and secure transfer methods; no uploading raw event footage to unencrypted public cloud servers.
- Technical Mastery:
Proven experience in event photography and video editing. Proficiency in industry-standard tools (Adobe Premiere Pro, Gimp,kdenlive, big plus Linux open source editing tools). - The Privacy-First Mindset: A deep, genuine respect for privacy and digital security. You understand why people in the Bitcoin and privacy-tech space value anonymity, and you view privacy constraints as a creative puzzle rather than a burden.
- Adaptability:
Ability to shoot in dynamic, sometimes low-light event environments (warehouses, dimly lit bars, tech meetups). - Storytelling Chops:
An eye for capturing candid moments, genuine interactions, and the vibe of a room, rather than just staged, cheesy smiles. - NYC Based:
Must be located in or able to easily commute to NYC for in-person events.
- You use Bitcoin and understand the broader decentralized tech ecosystem.
- You have experience with Cyber Security, Bitcoin technology, lightning, running a node, etc. (e.g., Onion Share, Syncthing, encrypted hardware).
- You have a portfolio that demonstrates how you’ve successfully navigated privacy constraints or shot in sensitive environments in the past.
- This is a volunteer/unpaid position works toward being paid.
- Deep immersion in NYC’s cutting-edge Bitcoin, privacy, and decentralized tech community.
- The creative freedom to experiment with new visual styles and storytelling formats.
