The role

The Financial Times is looking for a New York-based video producer to join our Unhedged and FT News Briefing podcast teams. This is an exciting time to join the FT as it looks to expand its video-podcast offering and to reach new audiences with a multi-format approach.

The role requires an experienced video editor who can work at a fast pace. You will have a proven track record of edits on a quick turnaround as well as experience of cutting podcasts for video platforms and translating content to succeed for both video networks and social media algorithms.

This role reports to the head of audio and in addition to The FT News Briefing, the podcast video producer will also work with audio colleagues as we roll out video for shows in our podcast slate. Our team runs on collaboration, honesty and flexibility.

This is a fixed-term, part-time contract through December 2026.
Key responsibilities

Editing vertical social media video clips and images for FT’s Unhedged podcast and The FT News Briefing

Provide post production work on edits

Establish efficient video production workflows for FT’s Unhedged podcast

Oversee filming Unhedged podcast in New York working with Sony FR7 cameras, Blackmagic switcher and RM IP500 Camera Remote Controller

Manage a workflow for video rollout on audio platforms

Use performance data to optimise short-form video content across various video and audio platforms

Support social video clip creation for other FT podcasts

Advise on technical set‑ups for remote podcast recordings and in‑studio sessions

Work closely with the video and social media teams

Confident use of Adobe Premiere, Pro Tools with knowledge of other video editing software including Descript. An understanding of After Effects would be beneficial

Experience of cutting podcasts for video platforms and translating content to succeed on social media

An understanding of optimising content for video networks and social media algorithms

Experience in audio and video system set ups

Works collaboratively and flexibly

Has worked in a busy newsroom

Has a keen eye for detail

Organised, able to prioritise a busy workload and can work to tight deadlines

Is passionate about podcasts and video podcasts

Able to troubleshoot under pressure

Desirable:
Familiarity with cameras similar to Sony A7IV, Sony FR7 and Canon C300

Salary range

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $75,000 to $105,000 pro rata. To ensure pay fairness, the successful candidate will be offered a salary within the estimated salary range based on a number of considerations including but not limited to: skill set; experience and training; certifications; and other business and organisational needs.

This position is open to a broad pool of candidates, both internal and external. Where an external candidate is hired or a successful internal candidate is appointed to the role on terms covered by the collective bargaining agreement, they will be represented by the News Media Guild (NMG). Candidates appointed on other (i.e. foreign) employment terms, including certain internal transfers on assignments from other bureaux, may not be represented by the NMG.
