Selected is looking for a creative, curious and highly motivated Commerce Reporter to produce authoritative shopping journalism that helps audiences make smarter, more informed purchasing decisions.
This reporter will pitch, report, write and update commerce stories across a range of consumer categories, from home, kitchen and technology to wellness, fitness, travel, beauty and style. They will interview experts, test products, analyze research and translate complex information into clear, useful guidance for consumers.
Selected is evolving beyond an article-first destination into a multiplatform shopping brand. The ideal candidate will bring a strong and recognizable editorial voice to their work and be excited to tell stories across articles, newsletters, social platforms, video, television and other formats. They should be comfortable sharing their expertise directly with audiences and have an interest in developing an on-camera presence.
The Commerce Reporter will work closely with editors, audience development, social, video, visuals and production teams to create journalism that is rigorous, relatable, engaging and distinctly Selected.
Responsibilities- Pitch, report, write and produce commerce stories, including buying guides, product reviews, tested roundups, explainers, sales coverage, trend stories and service journalism.
- Develop deep expertise within assigned product categories and identify emerging topics, products and consumer behaviors worth covering.
- Regularly interview qualified experts and incorporate primary sources, relevant research and trusted data into reporting.
- Test and evaluate products using clear, consistent and transparent editorial standards.
- Create articles that balance authoritative reporting with personality, accessibility and strong storytelling.
- Develop a distinct editorial voice and point of view that makes Selected's journalism useful, credible and memorable.
- Identify opportunities to respond quickly to breaking news, emerging trends and timely consumer questions.
- Collaborate with editors to plan coverage around seasonal moments and major commerce events, including Prime Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and holiday shopping.
- Work with the social, video and newsletter teams to adapt reporting into platform-native storytelling.
- Appear in social videos, product demonstrations, explainers, live streams, television segments, streaming programming or other on-camera opportunities as needed.
- Build and publish stories in the CMS and follow established editorial, affiliate and production workflows.
- Contribute to additional reporting, research, testing and multiplatform projects as assigned.

Salary range: $65,000 - $80,000
At least 3 years of professional reporting and writing experience for a digital publisher, news organization or major consumer content destination.
At least 1 year of experience producing commerce, product review, service or affiliate editorial content.
Experience interviewing experts and using research, primary sources and data to support consumer guidance.
Proven ability to write clear, concise and engaging copy under deadline.
Experience with product testing, reviews or comparative product research.
Ability to manage several assignments, updates and deadlines at once.
A collaborative, self-directed work style and a willingness to contribute across formats.
Comfort appearing on camera, or a genuine interest in developing on-camera skills with coaching and practice.

This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
