Vertical Video Editor, Opinion

Overview

The New York Times Opinion is seeking a creative and energetic video editor to create vertical videos for  and social media. This role blends production, writing, and editing, with a focus on mobile‑first video journalism. The position may involve hosting, editing, scripting, and collaborating with journalists and external contributors.

• Produce, write, and edit vertical videos
• Act as a host in videos to help translate journalism for off‑site audiences
• Write engaging SEO‑driven social captions
• Post videos to the site and platforms such as Tik Tok and You Tube
• Collaborate with print journalists and editors to adapt, script, and edit videos on a regular, timely cadence
• Work with editors on inventive on‑site and social formats aligned with Opinion’s mission and identity
• Maintain broad knowledge of the social media landscape and new platform trends
• Be open to working with diverse voices and viewpoints
• Report to the Deputy Editor, Opinion Video
• Demonstrate support for journalistic independence and commitment to seeking the truth

• 4+ years of creative video editing experience
• Ability to produce and publish short‑form vertical videos on tight deadlines
• Comfortable appearing on camera as a host
• Expertise in Adobe Premiere and After Effects
• Experience in archive producing using photo, video, graphics, and audio
• Deep knowledge of Tik Tok and Instagram
• Eagerness to experiment with vertical and mobile visual storytelling
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Success in creating innovative journalism in a fast‑paced environment
• Experience working in a newsroom or similar setting

• Knowledge of Times style or ability to absorb quickly
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time‑management
• Excellent news judgment and passion for The Times and its mission

Annual base salary: $ – $120,000 USD. Variable pay may be available. Benefits include medical, dental and vision, FSA, 401(k) match, paid vacation, sick days, parental leave, tuition reimbursement and professional development.
