Beth Morrison Projects, a leading innovator in opera-theatre and music theatre, seeks a full-time associate producer to join its team. Associate Producers (APs) act as project managers and primary points of communication for a portfolio of BMP productions in development, in production, and on tour. An AP typically manages 6-8 projects through 3-4 years of development before they premiere. By managing the various details, workflows, people, and priorities necessary to bring a production from idea to premiere, APs ensure that BMP artists can do their best work and see their creations come to life.
CoreResponsibilities
Reporting to BMP’s Director of Production and working closely with the full BMP producing team, the AP’s responsibilities include:
- Production and Performance Coordination
:
Ensure that BMP productions and works in development progress on schedule by serving as the point person for all production administration, including casting & production team hiring and onboarding, artistic meeting scheduling and note-taking, and workshop, rehearsal, and production calendar development and logistics. - Internal and External Communication
:
Serve as the nexus of communication with BMP’s producing and general management teams, as well as partner organizations’ artistic, production, and administrative staff, ensuring shared understanding of information, expectations, and next steps. - Artist Liaison and Support
:
Serve as the primary point of contact for collaborating artists to foster a positive and meaningful creative partnership with BMP by ensuring they are fully informed, engaged, and supported in their work. - Tour & Travel Management
:
Plan, confirm, and book all travel and housing for BMP staff and artists when working away from home, and provide on-site support for BMP workshops and touring engagements. - General Artistic Administration
:
Maintain all BMP artistic records, documents, and databases, and coordinate other production or administrative tasks as needed in support of BMP’s production team.
BMP operates on a hybrid model, with at least two days in BMP’s Brooklyn office each week. The AP may also work onsite in BMP rehearsal and performance spaces across the greater NYC area. As such, the AP must be based in the greater New York City area or willing to relocate. This role is also expected to travel nationally and internationally with BMP productions.
BMP will provide transportation, housing, and per diem for any necessary travel.
The AP role is an early-career position, and BMP is committed to the training, development, and future career development of the person hired into this role. To succeed in this role, the following basic core competencies are expected:
- Interest and Experience in Performing Arts
:
Excitement and passion for the performing arts, and passion for BMP’s mission to foster innovation in the field, and a desire to create a supportive environment for artists; prior experience working in the performing arts in a professional or academic environment. An ability to read sheet music is strongly preferred. - Organizational and Project Management Skills
:
Exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to track and manage complex logistics, schedules, and documentation; the ability to keep projects moving forward by tracking different workflows and deadlines, identifying necessary action steps, and manage collaborations between team members. - Initiative and Problem-Solving Skills
:
The ability to notice and flag issues or complications as they arise, and help brainstorm ways to address those issues; an ability to prioritize independently and collaboratively to address immediate, medium-term, and long-term needs. - Communication Skills
:
The ability to convey information clearly, professionally, and transparently, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of stakeholders; the ability to successfully adapt communications to various personalities, styles, and preferences. - A valid driver’s license
