Core Responsibilities:
- Reporting to BMP’s Director of Production and working closely with the full BMP producing team , the AP ’s responsibilities include:
- Production and Per formance Coordination :
Ensure that BMP productions and works in development progress on schedule by serving as the point per son for all production administration, including c asting & production team hiring and onboarding , a rtistic meeting scheduling and note-taking , and w orkshop, r ehearsal , and production calendar development and logistics . - I nternal and E xternal C ommunication :
Serve as the nexus of communication with BMP’s producing and general management teams, as well as partner organizations’ artistic, production, and administrative staff , ensuring shared understanding of information, expectations, and next steps. - Artist Liaison and Support :
Serve as the primary point of contact for collaborating artists to foster a positive and meaningful creative partnership with BMP by ensuring they are fully informed, engaged, and supported in their work . - Tour & Travel Management:
Plan, confirm, and book all travel and housing for BMP staff and artists when working away from home, and provide on-site support for BMP workshops and touring engagements. - General Artistic Administration:
Maintain all BMP artistic records, documents, and databases, and coordinate other production or administrative tasks as needed in support of BMP’s production team.
BMP operates on a hybrid model, with at least two days in BMP’s Brooklyn office each week. The AP may also work onsite in BMP rehearsal and performance spaces across the greater NYC area. As such, the AP must be based in the greater New York City area or willing to relocate . This role is also expected to travel nationally and internationally with BMP productions.
BMP will provide transportation, housing, and per diem for any necessary travel.
Interest and Ex per ience in Per forming Arts:
Excitement and passion for the per forming arts , and passion for BMP’s mission to foster innovation in the field , and a desire to create a supportive environment for artists ; prior ex per ience working in the per forming arts in a professional or academic environment. An ability to read sheet music is strongly preferred.
Organizational and Project Management
Skills:
Exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to track and manage complex logistics, schedules, and documentation ; the ability to keep projects moving forward by tracking different workflows and deadlines, identifying necessary action steps, and manag e collaborations between team members .
Initiative and Problem-Solving Skills :
The ability to notice and flag issues or complications as they arise, and help brainstorm ways to address those issues; an ability to prioritize independently and collaboratively to address immediate, medium-term, and long-term needs.
Communication
Skills:
The a bility to convey information clearly , professionally, and transparen tly, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of stakeholders; the ability to successfully adapt communications to various per sonalities, styles, and preferences.
A valid driver’s license .
While not required or expected, the following skills would be an asset for the AP :- 1-3 years of professional ex per ience in artistic producing, arts administration, production, tour management, or stage management ; ex per ience working directly with professional artists a plus.
- Specific interest or ex per ience in contemporary o per a, new music , or other ex per imental/avant-garde theater/ per formance.
- Knowledge of or ex per ience with diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice principles; ex per ience integrating anti-oppression concepts into an artistic process a plus.
- Ex per ience tracking expenses/ managing a budget.
- Ex per ience with Dropbox (or other cloud storage/file hosting software) , Trello (or other project management tools) , and/or Airtable (or other cloud-based database)
