Founded in 1929 as an educational institution, The Museum of Modern Art is dedicated to being the foremost museum of modern and contemporary art in the world. Through the leadership of its trustees and staff, the Museum manifests this commitment by establishing, preserving, and documenting a collection of the highest order that reflects the vitality, complexity, and unfolding patterns of modern and contemporary art;
by presenting exhibitions and educational programs of unparalleled significance; by sustaining a library, archives, and conservation laboratory that are recognized as international centers of research; and by supporting scholarship and publications of preeminent intellectual merit, including through evolving digital and interpretive platforms that broaden access to the collection.
Central to the Museum’s mission is the encouragement of an ever-deepening understanding and enjoyment of modern and contemporary art by the diverse local, national, and international audiences that it serves.
Position summary
:
The Department of Drawings and Prints stewards the Museum’s largest curatorial collection, encompassing more than 70,000 works on paper, including prints, drawings, multiples, illustrated books, and other paper-based practices, dating from the late nineteenth century to the present. The department is internationally recognized for the depth, range, and scholarly rigor of its holdings and maintains an active study center that supports research, close looking, teaching, and public engagement.

The Assistant Curator will contribute to projects that engage artists working across diverse geographies, methodologies, and cultural contexts, expanding and rethinking the histories and futures of printmaking, drawing, and other paper-based practices, including consideration of how these works circulate, are interpreted, and reach audiences through digital and expanded platforms.
