Spiegel & Grau, an independent, multi-platform publisher, is hiring a Publicist or Senior Publicist (title commensurate with experience) to lead and support publicity campaigns for a highly curated list, with a small, nimble team, and work directly with authors, agents, editors, and our distribution team to create campaigns that generate attention and drive sales. This position reports to the Publishing Director.

The ideal candidate is an organized self-starter with a track record of executing successful, creative publicity campaigns. Candidates should have 3-5 years of experience working on trade fiction and nonfiction campaigns, strong relationships with national media, and the ability to manage multiple projects; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. They should be detail-oriented and deadline-driven, while delivering top-tier author care.

Duties:
  • Build creative, selling publicity campaigns across traditional and emerging media—broadcast, print, digital, podcasts, bookseller partnerships, and beyond
  • Create all press materials (press kits, pitch letters, galley letters, press releases, author Q&As), and execute targeted outreach with measurable goals
  • Create and present campaign strategy and updates internally, and externally in media pitches
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with journalists, producers, editors, podcast hosts, and booksellers across the country
  • Identify and pursue non-traditional media opportunities and partnerships that expand an author's platform and reach
  • Be a trusted partner to authors and agents throughout the publication process—communicating clearly, managing expectations, and delivering campaigns that reflect their vision and amplify their voice
  • Collaborate closely with authors, agents, and the publishing team to ensure publicity strategy aligns with editorial positioning and sales goals
  • Supporting select author appearances, media opportunities, and industry events, including traveling as needed
  • Track campaign performance, analyze results, and apply insights
  • Manage campaign timelines and budgets
  • Contribute to department-wide initiatives, share knowledge generously, and grow with a small, nimble team that values collaboration
Experience &

Skills:
  • 3-5+ years of successful, strategic book publicity experience—you have a track record of campaigns that generated attention
  • A network of media contacts across broadcast, print, digital, and podcast
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational instincts: you manage multiple campaigns simultaneously, hit deadlines, and follow through without being reminded
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Edelweiss, Netgalley, Canva, Cision, Muckrack, and Podchaser.
  • Love books and working with authors, and you love getting them attention

This is a hybrid position, working in our New York City office 3 days a week. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices on the Upper West Side, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & NY).
