POSITION SUMMARY

The SAHA Curator in Residence is a role for a dynamic Curator, at the associate level, to join the New Museum’s internationally renowned Curatorial team and continue to expand its critically acclaimed exhibition programs. This position will collaborate on the planning and realization of large and small-scale museum exhibitions working with the museum’s Director and curatorial team. The Curator in Residence will also provide knowledge, research and programming related to contemporary art from Türkiye.

This is a unique opportunity to join a world-class institution, a globally focused curatorial team, and to gain unique professional experience and skills. This position, which is offered for a period of two years, is supported by SAHA Association, Istanbul. This position is eligible for the New Museum’s employee benefits programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and execute the production of exhibitions and supervise loans of artworks from museums, galleries, and private lenders. Assist other members of the curatorial team in the execution and production of exhibitions and the production/loan of artworks.
  • Collaborate and coordinate the production and execution of exhibitions with other departments (exhibition, education, finance, etc.).
  • Communicate with artists, galleries, and lenders worldwide for research, loan correspondence, and production. Act as a liaison with artists and their representatives in the preparation of exhibitions and publications. Advanced language skills are preferred.
  • Conduct preliminary research for exhibitions, demonstrating a detailed knowledge of international artists, institutions, art spaces, and practices.
  • Oversee production of large-scale artworks working with artists, fabricators, and other museum departments.
  • Supervise the installation of exhibitions with oversight from the Director and/or other curators.
  • Facilitate the coordination of artist residencies in the New Museum studio, including organizing travel and accommodation, and meetings and programs for resident artists.
  • Assist the Director in administrative and curatorial matters (which might include research, coordinating travels, bookings, correspondence, schedule, etc.). Provide general assistance in the management of the department (calendar, presentations, schedules, etc.).
  • Coordinate and manage research and gathering materials for publications.
  • Assist in producing, editing, and managing publications and exhibition catalogues.
  • Write interpretative and promotional materials to be used in press releases, web, extended captions, signage, and printed materials across departments.
  • Help select, monitor, and circulate exhibition proposals from various institutions.
  • Curate, propose, and/or organize small to medium-scale exhibitions under the guidance of the Director and/or other curators. Participate in the curatorial department’s process of selection and discussion of exhibition proposals.
  • Participate in fundraising efforts, provide support, and contribute to the grant proposal writing process and the development department's fundraising efforts. Collaborate with the Development department in organizing and leading stewardship/membership events.
  • Lead tours for both public and private groups.
