Background:

The Division of Communications and Advocacy (DCA) leads UN Women’s global communications and advocacy efforts to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment, strengthen the organization’s visibility and positioning, and engage audiences across digital, media and public-facing platforms. Within DCA, the Multimedia Team develops and delivers high-quality visual and multimedia content for UN Women’s corporate communications, campaigns, digital platforms and priority initiatives, while ensuring consistency with UN Women’s visual identity and accessibility standards.

Reporting to the Multimedia Team Lead, the Visual Communications Analyst supports the development and delivery of high-quality visual communications across UN Women’s social media channels, editorial products and corporate digital platforms. The position contributes to strengthening UN Women’s visual identity, audience engagement and user experience through graphic design, data visualization and user interface design.

The Visual Communications Analyst works closely with colleagues across DCA, including the multimedia, social media, editorial and digital teams, as well as communications, data, policy and programme colleagues across UN Women headquarters, regional and country offices. The incumbent also collaborates, as required, with external designers, developers, UX specialists and other service providers.

Plan and Design Social Media Visual Communication (40%)
  • Provide social media-first graphic design (e.g. GIFs, infographics, illustrations, photo collages, quote cards, illustrated explainers) that are tailored to UN Women social media accounts (X, Instagram, Linked In, Facebook). The designs should accurately reflect UN Women’s mandate and brand identity as well as those of special projects and initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain social media asset templates from scratch for use on all UN Women social media channels including at regional and country level. Make templates available on Canva for localization.
  • Work closely with the in-house photo editor and UN Women communications colleagues across the world to identify strong photos for use on social media. Edit and resize images and prepare quote cards and creative visuals that are tailored for UN Women corporate social media platforms.
  • Work with the in-house social media video producer to guide and support the incorporation of graphic elements into social media videos and to ensure consistent expression of UN Women’s brand identity on social media videos.
  • Collaborate in infographics, data cards, illustrated explainers, and other forms of data visualization and social media optimized knowledge products in liaison with data, policy and programme colleagues across the organization.
  • Update and organize UN Women’s public Trello board for distribution of UN Women’s global social media content and packages.
  • Follow design trends on social media and experiment with new approaches to keep UN Women’s social media visually interesting and engaging.
  • Review and give feedback on delivered graphics of external vendors.
Coordinate Editorial design (20 %)
  • Develop illustrations and layouts for high-priority organizational communication products.
