POSITION SUMMARYThis role will develop Makeup By Mario's Artistry and Education ecosystem and secure the brand's lasting position as the defining global authority in modern artistry and education. This includes leading the function in full: building the team, setting the standards, and shaping the teaching philosophy that carry Mario's point of view with the same precision and credibility at every touchpoint.
The ideal candidate pairs exceptional artistry credibility and teaching instinct with the discipline to codify taste into scalable standards, and the leadership maturity to build and run a function.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Act as Mario's primary strategic deputy for global artistry and education; own the strategy
- Lead and develop the Artistry Team
- Build the Global Artistry Collective: scale deputy voices (internal and external experts) to diversify and extend brand voice
- Lead the Education Team: artistry-led training and application guidance for internal teams, Sephora BAs, artists, creators/affiliates, as well as consumer-facing content
- Codify Mario's artistry philosophy, technique, and taste standards into a scalable education framework
- Partner with Product Development: translate technique into formula requirements; identify best-in-class experts to advise PD by category for in-depth formula evaluation through development and scale‑up; and provide hands‑on evaluation of formula, texture, payoff, bendability, and wear
- Partner with Marketing and Social/PR: shape product positioning, artistry content storytelling, and public artistry credibility
- Partner with Creative: artistry direction, on set expertise, look development and editing guidance
- Partner with Commercial:
Create global education programs that support the local needs of the regions, support field teams with education on product, technique, and artistry point of view - Adapt training programs that maximize performance in key retailers especially Sephora
- Create train the trainer content programing to maximize time with field team members and enhance education techniques in store globally
- In alignment with Mario, develop artist credentialing to further develop and provide opportunities to more artists in the Makeup By Mario ecosystem
- 15+ years as a Makeup Artist, with recognized credibility within the professional artistry community
- Track record building and leading artistry/education teams, including external artist networks
- Experience building out education programs to suite brand and retailer needs and translating an artistry voice into education content
- Extensive on‑set experience across editorial, digital first, and campaign environments, with a portfolio showcasing best‑in‑class examples of work for makeup brands
- Experience working with celebrity and behind the scenes for Fashion Weeks
- Direct experience shaping formula and shade development with Product Development
- Proven output: training content and consumer‑facing artistry content
- Consumer intuition and empathy when evaluating products, as a user and in how it wears on others
- Minimum of five years of management experience
- Ability to work in person four days a week on‑site and 1 day remote
- Flexibility to travel and be on set as needed
- Direct experience working with a beauty founder
