Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: New York

The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It's why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It's why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination.

And it's why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it's worth paying for.

The New York Times is creating a video news series that brings our journalism to life in a new format. We are seeking a Managing Producer who is a seasoned journalist and manager, drawn to building ambitious work that breaks new ground.

You will nurture innovation and sustainability while cultivating a culture of collaboration. You will set the long-term editorial vision and priorities for this new show and develop and manage relationships with the core newsroom and key internal stakeholders.

You will work closely with department leadership and other senior leaders to develop the show and support the talented team who will bring it to life. You are a builder: comfortable with creating from the ground up, evolving formats, and helping hosts and teams find their footing. You are also an editor and manager with deep experience in daily news and a strong strategic sensibility for what audiences want and how to grow them.

This is an in-office position, based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office four days a week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.

  • Conduct regular meetings to review quality, provide feedback and set priorities with the team
  • Develop relationships with Times reporters and editors
  • Find opportunities to tell news stories in new and exciting ways
  • Oversee production of episodes, including: helping the team define ideas, structuring episodes, and guiding the story
  • Work with the team of makers and hosts to craft stories coherently and artfully
  • Manage an editorial calendar, juggling immediate priorities and longer-term goals
  • Assess staffing needs to build a diverse team of producers and editors
  • Manage your direct reports, providing editorial feedback to producers and help guide their growth development
