Bizcap is looking for a Social Media Marketing Intern to get out across New York City and tell the stories of the people behind its small businesses.
We want a steady stream of real business owners on camera, telling real stories. Not testimonials. Not scripted ads. Think closer to a local news segment, what the business does, what it takes to run it, what is difficult right now, and what they wish someone had told them when they started.
The goal is to create content people actually want to watch, while giving NYC small business owners a platform to share their experiences.
What you’ll do- Build and manage a pipeline of NYC small business owners to interview, including restaurants, contractors, salons, auto shops, medical practices, gyms, wholesalers, and more
- Reach out to business owners directly through in person visits, DMs, emails, and calls, then manage scheduling and confirmations
- Research each business and prepare thoughtful interview questions before every shoot
- Film interviews and capture supporting footage, with a solid understanding of framing, audio, and lighting
- Create rough cuts using Premiere, DaVinci, Cap Cut, or similar editing software
- Organize and hand off footage with clear file naming, timestamped selects, and notes on the strongest moments and potential story angles
- Track which subjects, formats, and hooks perform best and use those insights to help determine what we should shoot next
- Follow NYC small business news and identify stories, trends, and conversations worth building content around
Once you’re up and running, we expect roughly one completed interview per week as a baseline, but there is plenty of room to produce more.
What we’re looking for- Currently enrolled in a journalism, film, media, communications, marketing, or related degree program, or recently graduated
- Based in NYC and willing to travel across the boroughs for shoots
- Comfortable approaching business owners you don’t know and convincing them to participate, persistence matters more than polish
- Working editing knowledge of Premiere, DaVinci, Cap Cut, or similar software, with the ability to turn an interview into a watchable rough cut independently
- A strong understanding of vertical video and the fundamentals of shooting, including framing, audio, and lighting
- Highly organized with footage, files, schedules, and interview pipelines
- Genuinely curious about business and the people behind it
We prefer that you shoot using your own equipment or gear available to rent through your school, with Bizcap covering approved rental costs. If neither is an option, we can provide a kit. Not owning a camera will not rule you out.
