Dental Assistant – IV Sedation Specialist
Pay Rate: $25.00 – $32.00 / hour
Duration: 3–6 Months (Contract-to-Hire Potential)
Location: New York, NY 10010 (Onsite)
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 35 Hours/Week (Flexible
Shifts:
8am–4pm, 9am–5pm, or 10am–6pm)
Start Date: Immediate (Pending medical clearance)
Position Overview: Our premier academic clinical client is seeking an experienced, highly disciplined Dental Assistant to provide dedicated surgical chairside support within their Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department. This specialized role focuses heavily on surgical assistance, IV conscious sedation workflows, and real-time patient vital sign monitoring during complex oral surgery procedures.
Core Responsibilities- Surgical Chairside Assistance: Deliver advanced four-handed surgical assistance to oral surgery residents and faculty during complex extractions, implants, and maxillofacial procedures.
- IV Sedation & Monitoring Support: Directly assist in the setup, administration tracking, and recovery phases of intravenous (IV) conscious sedation and general anesthesia.
- Patient Vitals Oversight: Monitor patient vital signs (pulse oximetry, EKG, blood pressure) pre-, intra-, and post-operatively, ensuring absolute patient safety and rapid response to changes.
- Clinical Preparation: Prepare surgical trays, surgical dental castings, and sterile fields; safely dispense post-operative medications and recovery instructions to patients and escorts.
- Compliance & Safety: Maintain rigid adherence to OSHA, infection control, and hazardous material storage/disposal protocols unique to surgical suites.
- Experience: 2+ years of dedicated clinical dental assisting experience, with a strict requirement of 1–2 years of direct exposure to Oral Surgery and IV Sedation/General Anesthesia environments.
- Education: Graduation from an accredited Dental Assistant Training Program.
- Technical
Skills:
Mastery of advanced four-handed surgical techniques and oral surgery instrumentation. - Preferred Credentials: Active Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) designation; DAANCE (Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification Examination) certification is a massive plus.
