Dental Assistant - Sunset Park alternating

Position Summary

Family Health Centers at NYU Langone provides dental care at the Sunset Park location. The Dental Assistant will assist the dentist across all modalities of dentistry, working a 3‑day schedule with alternating Friday/Saturday shifts. Responsibilities include performing four‑handed dentistry, infection control, radiography, sterilization, instrument handling, and documentation.

• Compliance with hospital, health center and departmental policies and procedures
• Provide chairside assistance to the dentist, utilizing proper four‑handed dentistry procedures and observing universal precautions, protocols and sterile techniques
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and age‑related criteria pertinent to the patients served
• Pours and trims patient study models in the dental laboratory; complete laboratory forms accurately
• Document patient records as dictated by dentist; assist in filling out charts and processing forms and records
• Sterilize and/or disinfect instruments and handpieces following guidelines of the Dental Department Infection Control Manual
• Clean instruments and prepare them for sterilization
• Assure patient comfort while waiting for the dentist
• Maintain the dental operatory in an organized and clean fashion; ensure appropriate instruments and supplies are available
• Takes, exposes, develops and mounts radiographs properly when applicable
• Assume the standards of care related to infection control; uphold all OSHA guidelines and safety at the assigned station

High School Diploma; 1 year of chairside dental assisting experience;
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association required at the time of hire and to be maintained; effective communication with all levels of the organization.

Salary range for the role is $50,040.46 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
