Description

We are hiring a Fleet Public Health Officer to join Princess Cruises. All officers onboard provide a high level of customer service, maintaining a professional, dignified, friendly, assertive, and polite demeanor at all times towards guests and fellow crew members, and demonstrating performance consistent with the organization’s Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan. Successful candidates will be assigned to work four‑month contracts onboard our fleet of cruise ships operating worldwide, with two‑month intermissions.

Public Health Officer

Key Responsibilities
  • The Fleet Public Health Officer oversees shipboard public health practices through operational support, compliance audits, policy and procedure development and implementation, and HR support of public health officer recruitment, training, and performance reviews.
  • Supports the shipboard Public Health Officers (PHOs) with the prevention and control of communicable diseases, outbreaks, and environmental health risks.
  • The Fleet Public Health Officer uses data to identify ship, department, and rank training needs and collaborates with PHOs and other stakeholders to deliver targeted and appropriate training.
  • The Fleet Public Health Officer coordinates with their Shoreside manager and PHOs to support, follow‑up, and resolve operational issues with internal stakeholders.
  • The Fleet Public Health Officer provides recommendations for improvements to operations and assists in the development and updates to public health policies and procedures.
  • The Fleet Public Health Officer facilitates consistent application of policies and procedures through audits, training, feedback, and ongoing operational evaluation.
  • The Fleet Public Health Officer trains and develops the technical and operational skills of new and existing public health officers.
  • The Fleet Public Health Officer conducts shipboard public health operational reviews and audits and produces reports of findings.
  • The Fleet Public Health Officer initiates shipboard corrective action plans to ensure program and policy compliance and follows‑up collaboratively with all involved department managers and stakeholders.
  • Maintains awareness of relevant local, national, and international public health laws, standards, and regulations and helps to maintain compliance.

  • Interacts and communicates with guests and crew in a professional and empathetic manner.
  • Consistently demonstrates sensitivity to every culture, age, gender identity, ability, and socioeconomic status.
  • Listens attentively, is respectful and considerate, and uses non‑technical language when communicating with crew and guests.
  • Adheres to Company Privacy policies for handling of personal and sensitive health information.
  • Promptly and effectively assists in the evaluation of complaints.

  • Stays up to date and provides evidence for Company required credentials; uses Company Learning platforms to complete Company mandated training and competencies (PDRs).
  • Shares knowledge with others; assists with teaching team members in meeting required competencies.
  • Analyzes own self‑learning needs and develops personal learning plan; is receptive to learning new skills; uses online learning and reference resources; participates in onboard learning opportunities.
  • Complies with continuous quality improvement standards.
Leadership Responsibilities
  • The Fleet Public Health Officer sets performance expectations for the PHOs by providing clear guidance and feedback.
