Assistant Commissioner, Queens Neighborhood Health

The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) focuses on social determinants of health and seeks a dynamic leader to serve as Assistant Commissioner of the newly larger Neighborhood Health Strategy for Queens. The role supports the work of other Neighborhood Health Bureaus in Brooklyn, Harlem and the Bronx, and will incubate a limited program portfolio in Queens while growing the bureau, including the launch of a Jamaica Health Action Center and developing a roadmap for future work in Staten Island.

• Provide leadership for staff in a new bureau, including senior director, director, manager and support-level staff.
• Provide leadership to programs with clinical guidance.
• Develop, implement, and revise the bureau’s strategic plan, including logic model, to align with Agency and Divisional priorities and measurable outcomes.
• Define the bureau’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives in alignment with other bureaus.
• Develop performance metrics and evaluation frameworks to assess program effectiveness and impact.
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and development of a high-performing team.
• Establish organizational structure, workflows, and processes for efficient service delivery.
• Oversee launch of a Jamaica Health Action Center, coordinating collaboration with internal and external partners.
• Develop a prospective roadmap for work on Staten Island, including funding proposals.
• Identify funding opportunities and lead the development of competitive grant proposals and pitches.
• Design and launch programs addressing the needs of specific neighborhoods in Queens driven by inequities – e.g., chronic disease prevention, maternal health.
• Engage with community stakeholders to ensure programs are responsive, equitable, and impactful.
• Represent the bureau, division, and Agency, building relationships with internal and external partners.
• Advocate for the bureau’s initiatives and priorities within the agency and broader community.
• Partner with other bureaus within CHECW and across the agency to increase neighborhood investments through data‑driven strategy and program optimization.
• Serve in an emergency activation role in the agency’s Incident Command System and support other emergency operations as needed.
• Serve as key advisor to the Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioners and other leadership staff.
