The Lead, UX Design supports Macy’s User Experience initiatives by defining the roadmap to achieve the company’s strategic vision through the conceptualization and design of engaging frameworks and experiences. The Lead, UX Design addresses business goals and user needs, influences cross‑functional teams, and applies research and data to guide decision‑making. The Lead, UX Design also mentors and coaches teams while evolving practices to deliver high‑quality, inclusive user experiences.
WhatYou Will Do
- Design programs that align with both long‑term and short‑term business goals while addressing user needs (e.g., KPIs, success metrics).
- Collaborate with managers, product managers, engineers, and researchers to define and translate user needs into solutions.
- Guide teams in adopting and applying best practices in user‑centered design.
- Partner with UX leadership to establish standards and ensure deliverables align with the enterprise design vision.
- Evaluate design practices across web, mobile, and in‑store experiences to drive consistency across platforms.
- Champion accessibility and embed user experience design as a core driver of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and thought leader on user experience design and processes.
- Mentor and coach cross‑functional teams to build design capability across the organization.
- Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Strategic UX Vision & Leadership: Advanced skills in setting a UX design vision, including analytical, strategic, and conceptual design abilities. Ability to guide the direction of user experience initiatives and ensure alignment with Macy's strategic goals.

Collaboration:
Strong collaboration skills, working effectively with managers, product teams, engineers, and researchers to define user needs and develop user‑centric designs that meet business objectives.
Mentoring &
Coaching:
Ability to inspire, mentor, and develop UX designers and cross‑functional teams. Guides teams in adopting best practices and delivering high‑quality, inclusive experiences.
User‑Centered Design Expertise: Deep understanding of UX design methodologies, including leveraging user research, KPIs, metrics, and optimization techniques to inform and validate design decisions.
Accessibility & Design Consistency: A strong advocate for accessibility, ensuring that user experience design is consistent across web, mobile apps, and in‑store platforms.
Negotiation & Advocacy: Skilled in negotiating and advocating for user experience solutions across different audiences, including peers and executive leadership.
Project Management & Prioritization: Solid time management and organizational skills, capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously and ensuring they progress efficiently through various stages of development.
Business & User Alignment: Ability to identify business goals and design user experiences that support both business objectives and user needs, while setting and managing organizational goals based on feedback.
Strong Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to influence and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders. Skilled in presenting findings, creating documentation, and communicating complex ideas clearly.
