Location: New York
Junior Designer – Architecture (Year One Program)
Join SOM’s Year One Program as a Junior Designer in the Architecture practice. This role supports early-career professionals in gaining hands‑on experience while contributing to innovative and sustainable design solutions.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of project components under direct supervision.
- Show initiative, process innovation, problem solving, and decision quality with a focus on precision and accuracy.
- Produce presentation and contract deliverables such as diagrams, 3D models, drawings, renderings, physical models, and animations.
- Communicate internally through timely written, oral, and visual means.
- Create and innovate with strong conceptual design ability.
- Integrate interdisciplinary criteria to advance project design.
- Collaborate at the project team level by evaluating ideas constructively.
- Demonstrate basic understanding of building materials, systems, specifications, codes, details and construction techniques.
- Use appropriate design tools throughout project phases.
- Manage time and workload to meet project task deadlines with direction from Project Leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
- Recent completion of a professional degree in Architecture or a related field.
- Strong collaborative ability.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, parametric and rendering software, and Adobe Suite.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary range: $64,000–$68,000, based on experience, qualifications, location, and education.
