Senior Landscape Architect – Hudson River Bioregion

Brooklyn, NY (hybrid, flexible schedule)

Biohabitats is a purpose-driven organization that specializes in ecological restoration. We seek a Senior Landscape Architect with a strong background in ecology and experience in nature-based design or ecological restoration to join our Hudson River Bioregion team.
Role and Responsibilities- Serve as Project Manager or Technical Lead on projects.
- Lead and support a range of planning, design, and design-build projects related to ecological restoration, conservation, climate adaptation and resiliency, and environmental justice.
- Prepare design drawings, construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Conduct natural resources and watershed inventories and field assessments.
- Provide graphic communication oversight and input on projects and proposals.
- Lead and participate in community engagement initiatives.
- Provide construction phase services (bid support, construction observation).
- Support business development activities, including maintaining client relationships, lead generation, and proposal writing.
- Professional experience in ecological restoration, conservation, and climate adaptation and resiliency.
- Applied experience leading and supporting design projects from concept through construction drawings and implementation (grading, soils, planting plans, habitat enhancement, invasive species management).
- Community engagement experience.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Microsoft 365.
- 2+ years of project management experience including oversight of budgets, deliverables, client relationships, and project teams.
- Ability to lead or support field assessments under a variety of weather and site conditions.
- Strong graphic, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
- Willingness to travel throughout the Hudson River and Northeast region.
- Dedication to restoring the earth and inspiring ecological stewardship.
- Familiarity with ecosystems of the Hudson River, Long Island Sound, and Coastal New Jersey watersheds.
- Native plant identification and habitat assessments.
- Familiarity with permitting of restoration projects in NJ, NY, CT, RI, or MA.
- Experience developing proposals, scopes of work, and fee estimates.
- Experience in business development and professional networking in NJ, NY, and/or New England.
- Experience with construction oversight and restoration construction.
Master’s degree in landscape architecture with a background in ecology or a related discipline.
10–15 years of relevant experience as a Landscape Architect with an emphasis on ecological design and at least 2 years of project management experience.
Professional RegistrationRegistered Professional Landscape Architect preferred.
