Project Designer​/Architect; Transit Architecture

At HDR, we bring together architects, planners, designers, and technical experts to solve complex design challenges with creativity, curiosity, and collaboration. As part of our Architecture practice, the Project Designer / Architect will design and deliver spaces that promote community well‑being worldwide, from healing environments to civic landmarks.

• Take responsibility for design of architectural projects under the direction of the Design Principal and in close collaboration with the project team.
• Independently develop alternative concepts and key components of complex projects.
• Exhibit strong design skills on daily tasks, ensuring high quality and visually compelling execution.
• Develop materials and participate in client presentations, internal critiques and reviews with various government agencies for project approvals.
• Understand code and cost implications of design decisions to ensure that design proposals are viable and compliant with project goals.
• Independently coordinate design with the multidiscipline project team through multiple phases of a project.
• Conduct internal design/work sessions in conjunction with Design Principal and Project Manager, coordinating with work of other disciplines.
• Coordinate workload of team members through multiple phases to complete design deliverables on schedule.
• Review architectural documents for areas of design conflict with the Project Architect and all other disciplines.
• Write and edit architectural specifications for key design materials and systems, working directly with senior level architects.
• Incorporate agreed‑upon changes into project documents.
• Provide construction contract administration assistance as needed to maintain design intent through construction.
• Direct the activities of other junior designers and mentor other staff members as needed.
• Contribute to design culture of studio.
• Perform other duties as needed.

• Professional degree in Architecture.
• Registered Architect.
• Experience in transportation, infrastructure, healthcare, educational, civic, science and research facilities.
• Strong interest in sustainable design/LEED.
• Strong technical skills with knowledge in Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite and other related software, Open Buildings is a plus, and graphics programs.
• Preference given to candidates currently residing in the NYC‑Metro Area.

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field or equivalent work experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule).
• Excellent written and communication skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Proficient in use of Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and process.
• Demonstrated graphic presentation skills.
• Experience in preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications.
