Technical Designer - Catalyst Brands
Technical Designer provides technical expertise to evaluate apparel merchandise in terms of style, measurement and construction to achieve the appropriate fit, quality and design interpretation for the manufacturer to follow.
Primary Responsibilities- Fit Ownership:
Manages the garment fit process, including conducting live model/mannequin sessions, evaluating construction, and analyzing pattern/grading revisions. Collaborates with Design and PD to recommend construction alternatives based on fit history. - Cross-functional Partnership:
Works closely with Design, Sourcing and Merchandising teams to align on fit intent, meet calendar deadlines and maintain brand standards. - Technical Documentation:
Creates, maintains, and manages detailed tech packs, including measurement specs, tolerances, grading, fit photos, technical sketches and construction details in Flex PLM. - Vendor & Overseas Communication:
Serves as primary contact for factories on technical and fit compliance; resolves fit-related and construction issues with International Buying Office and factories to meet development and production timelines. - Quality & Fit Optimization:
Enhances garment fit and quality by analyzing customer feedback, performing competitive research, and conducting block reviews. - Fit Sample Tracking & Logistics:
Tracks vendor-sent samples, opens packages, logs received samples, sets up and sends recurring fit invites, measures/prepares/steams samples prior to fitting, and keeps organized sample storage by season.
- Degree in Technical Design, Fashion Design, or related field is preferred.
- 3-5 years of Technical Design experience required.
- Experience working with multiple channels such as wholesale and discounters is preferred.
- Deep knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, grading, fabric performance, and manufacturing process.
- Experience with PLM systems (Flex PLM preferred) and Adobe applications (Illustrator, Photoshop). Competency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Excel. CLO 3D and Gerber software training is a plus.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with a trained eye for proportion, balance, and overall aesthetic.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, especially important for vendor/factory correspondence.
- Might exhibit executive presence and professionalism, demonstrating confidence and assertiveness in fit presentations.
- Self‑motivated professional with superior organizational skills, acute attention to detail, and a proven ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Possesses big‑picture thinking and resolution‑oriented problem solving.
- Proactive, adaptable, and open to feedback.
- Highly organized and comfortable managing multiple timelines.
