Overview
STV, a leading architecture and engineering firm, is seeking an Intermediate Transit Architectural Designer to join our team in New York, NY. In this role, you will work on innovative projects that shape the future of transportation and the communities it serves.
Responsibilities- Prepares architectural plans or supervises their execution.
- Performs analysis of design and construction systems, planning studies, design layouts, and construction details.
- Oversees research used in writing specifications, including coordinating with manufacturers.
- Conducts site and construction inspections for information‑gathering purposes, preparing interpretive reports.
- Executes code analysis, material selections, and technical solutions.
- Develops design layouts and construction features, researching, compiling, and recording information for assigned project work.
- Coordinates with other disciplines, plans, schedules, manages, and oversees the work.
- Determines, collectively with multiple design disciplines, the technical approach and design criteria for projects.
- Leads and coaches architectural staff.
- Performs independent investigations, studies, and architectural analysis.
- Develops design details, plans, and specifications.
- Serves as quality control reviewer.
- Uses computer software as a design tool for solving complex architectural problems.
- Contributes new designs or techniques that are of material significance in solving important problems.
- Remains current in codes and technologies appropriate to the architecture discipline, including IBC, NFPA, etc.
- Ensures conformance with standards, established architectural practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and construction.
- Performs construction administration activities, including review of shop drawings and requests for information (RFIs).
- Professional Degree in Architecture (M. Arch preferred).
- Minimum of 12 years of experience as a project architect within the rail/transit sector.
- Experience in the transportation sector is required.
- Transit architecture design experience, including station and related facilities, is required.
- Registered Licensed Architect in the State of New York is preferred.
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite is required.
- Experience with Open Buildings, Rhino, 3‑D Max, Sketch‑up, and LEED Accreditation is a plus.
- Excellent design, technical detailing, and strong presentation skills (verbal and visual) are essential.
- The candidate should be a self‑starter with a passion for problem‑solving, an understanding that project success comes through teamwork, and a firm focus on client needs.
