The Assistant Designer begins their career on the Design Team at Macy’s, actively engaging in learning the company culture, product aesthetic, and brand principles. This role provides an opportunity to think, dream, and create, seeking designers who are visionaries and leaders. What You Will Do- Develop an understanding and skills in researching category, trend, and customer preferences
- Assist the Design Team in aligning with the Private Brand direction by incorporating materials, trims, silhouettes, colors, and patterns
- Expand design knowledge by supporting the team in executing a strategic vision with a progressive, customer‑centric approach, contributing to overall product strategy and merchandise objectives
- Assist in preparing presentation materials and set‑up for design‑led meetings
- Contribute to in‑season design changes for the department and vendors
- Strengthen skills for active participation in cross‑functional team meetings, summarizing action points for the manager
- Collaborate closely with the people leader to meet deadlines and understand priority and workload expectations
- Assist and develop skills in creating flat mechanical sketches for design development packages
- Participate in creating and distributing tech packages
- Assist in approving strike‑offs, samples, and other development materials
- Acquire skills in using Adobe and CLO programs for style, color, and pattern development
- Review and provide feedback on development samples
- Establish relationships and maintain regular communication with cross‑functional partners throughout the development cycle
- Learn on the job how to identify opportunities and develop an assortment
- Demonstrate the ability to collaborate and achieve results with a desire to grow within the company and pursue a career at Macy’s

Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Adobe Design programs - PLM Knowledge:
Working knowledge of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) is a plus - Color and Print Sense:
Strong color sense and print sense, with the ability to view and differentiate the color spectrum
- Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.
