Project Architect / Project Technical Designer

Overview

As a mid‑level design professional, you will contribute to project delivery across multiple phases, including design development and technical execution. This role requires a strong foundation in architecture and interior design, and the ability to work independently on small‑ to medium‑scale projects or to support larger initiatives under senior leadership. You will be responsible for design documentation, consultant coordination, and project execution, ensuring high‑quality outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and own the technical execution of small and medium‑sized projects of limited complexity.
  • Partner regularly with design and management leaders to execute the project, coordinate resources and integrate inputs from inception to completion.
  • Act as a leading member of the project team in all aspects of project scope—informing the workplan, supporting design, complying with jurisdictional requirements, producing content for all documentation phases, overseeing construction administration, and coordinating with outside consultants.
  • Manage specific technical design aspects of an assigned project, including investigation, evaluation and recommendation of design solutions.
  • Ensure that construction document production aligns with design intent.
  • Conduct code analyses and act as a point of contact with jurisdictions.
  • Perform submittal reviews during construction, maintain RFI and submittal logs.
  • Assist in managing client expectations.
  • Coordinate communication between the project team, subcontractors, and other disciplines.
  • Conduct on‑site observations and prepare architect’s field reports.
  • Coordinate document coordination and design detailing.
  • Direct project teams and assignments to complete interior design and/or architectural projects.
  • Use advanced techniques and modify/extend theories, principles, and practices.
  • Make judgments in evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Capabilities
  • Fundamental competency in fulfilling key responsibilities for the Project Technical Designer role.
  • Specialized strength in technical execution, knowledge of the full design process, competency in all conventional aspects of interior design and/or architecture.
  • Flexibility to focus on a single client with a variety of project types or multiple concurrent projects at various stages.
  • Ability to communicate technical and integration issues and direction quickly.
  • Effective communication with clients, consultants, contractors, and staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills at all levels of management and staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Substantial and varied experience in project planning, including all phases of interior design, architecture and engineering.
  • Experience in all project phases, from strategic planning and programming through construction and post‑occupancy.
  • Experience in construction document preparation and field operations.
  • Knowledge of building materials, codes, specifications, construction techniques, interior and/or architectural detailing.
  • Knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements, zoning and jurisdictional processes.
  • Sufficient knowledge of engineering disciplines to coordinate work.
  • Competent business writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in REVIT, Bluebeam, Newforma, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office, and other applicable programs.
  • Possess BIM modeling skills.
  • Degree in architecture or interior design from an accredited university.
  • Design professional with typically no less than five years of relevant experience in commercial interior design and/or architecture.
