Position

Summary

G-III Apparel Group is seeking a Designer to join our DKNY Handbags division. This role is responsible for leading the design and development of seasonal handbag collections from concept through production. The ideal candidate is a creative, commercially driven designer with strong technical expertise, a deep understanding of handbag construction, and experience partnering with overseas factories and cross‑functional teams to deliver innovative, brand‑right product.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop seasonal handbag collections that align with the DKNY brand aesthetic and business objectives
  • Create original concepts, sketches, technical flats, tech packs, and maintain line sheets throughout the development process
  • Research and develop innovative materials, fabrics, trims, hardware, and construction techniques each season
  • Partner with Product Development and overseas factories to ensure design intent is executed throughout sampling and production
  • Review prototypes and development samples, providing detailed comments on construction, functionality, materials, and aesthetics
  • Prepare, maintain, and update tech packs from initial development through bulk production
  • Organize and maintain design development materials including artwork, trims, fabric worksheets, development samples, finalized tech packs, and line lists
  • Communicate daily with overseas factories, agents, and vendors regarding product development, approvals, and seasonal timelines
  • Submit and approve artwork, strike‑offs, wash panels, lab dips, and related development materials
  • Manage and adhere to seasonal Time and Action calendars to ensure deadlines are met
  • Collaborate closely with Merchandising, Sales, Sourcing, and Product Development throughout the product lifecycle
  • Present seasonal concepts, product direction, and line reviews to internal teams
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Associate Designers and design support staff as needed

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or related field
  • 5–8 years of experience in handbag or accessories design
  • Proven experience owning product categories from concept through production
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop CS, MS Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong experience preparing tech packs and managing the product development process
  • Experience working directly with overseas factories, agents, and fabric and trim vendors
  • Strong understanding of handbag construction, materials, hardware, and manufacturing processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and seasonal deadlines simultaneously

The pay range for this position is: $90,000 - $110,000 per year.
