Role Description
The Associate Designer – Knitwear (Women's) is a full-time, on-site role based in the New York City Metropolitan Area. This role supports the design team in creating seasonal women’s knitwear collections, from concept to final samples. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include developing design concepts, creating technical sketches, selecting yarns and trims, and updating CADs and line sheets. The Associate Designer will assist with fitting sessions, communicate design details to factories, and help manage sample development and approvals.
The role also involves researching trends, colors, and silhouettes, maintaining design archives, and collaborating closely with merchandising and production to ensure brand consistency and product quality.
- Support the design process for women's knitwear collections from concept through final production
- Create and update technical sketches, CADs, and design layouts using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and In Design
- Assist in yarn selection, stitch development, and color story creation
- Help prepare line sheets, presentation decks, and internal design materials
- Review samples, participate in fittings, and assist with revisions and comments
- Collaborate closely with the Design Director, Production, and Merchandising teams
- Maintain organized files, references, and seasonal archives
- 1-2 years of professional experience in knitwear design or related role
- Knitwear degree from Fashion Institute of Technology
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and In Design
- Strong understanding of knit construction, yarns, and garment development
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
