The Architectural Job Captain serves as a key project leader, bridging design, technical documentation, project coordination, and client communication. This role combines elements of a Project Architect, Project Manager, and Designer, with a strong emphasis on construction documentation, consultant coordination, and project delivery.
The ideal candidate brings strong Revit expertise, experience with multifamily and rehabilitation projects, and the ability to independently manage project responsibilities while supporting junior team members.
What You'll Do- Lead and coordinate architectural projects across multifamily, mixed-use, commercial, affordable housing, and NYCHA developments throughout New York City and New York State.
- Produce and oversee high-quality construction documents, drawings, and specifications for renovation, rehabilitation, restoration, and preservation projects.
- Manage multiple project filings, approvals, and drawing packages across large-scale property portfolios.
- Develop architectural plans, elevations, sections, and details using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Ensure project compliance with applicable building codes, zoning regulations, accessibility requirements, and client standards.
- Coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, and internal project teams through all project phases.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and proactive communication.
- Conduct site visits to document existing conditions, verify field dimensions, photograph project sites, and assess project needs.
- Develop practical, cost-effective solutions to field conditions and construction challenges.
- Support design development efforts for historic preservation and adaptive reuse projects.
- Participate in construction administration, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and coordinating with contractors.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior architectural staff, ensuring quality and consistency across project deliverables.
- Manage project schedules, priorities, and deadlines to support successful project execution.
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture.
- 3+ years of professional architectural experience.
- Strong experience working on multifamily residential projects within New York City and/or New York State.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit for design, modeling, and construction documentation.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Strong understanding of New York building codes, zoning requirements, and construction practices.
- Experience producing comprehensive construction documents and coordinating project teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Experience conducting site surveys, documenting existing conditions, and resolving field issues.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and client management skills.
- Self-motivated professional capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Licensed Architect (RA) or actively pursuing licensure.
- Experience with NYCHA, public housing, or large-scale affordable housing projects.
- Interest in historic preservation, rehabilitation, and restoration projects.
- Experience with mixed-use developments, charter schools, and commercial projects.
- Familiarity with construction administration and consultant coordination.
- Experience managing project filings through New York City agencies.
- Strong knowledge of adaptive reuse and renovation of existing urban buildings.
- Work on impactful projects that improve communities and expand access to quality housing.
