Summary

The Tailor delivers exceptional client experiences by ensuring garments reflect impeccable fit, craftsmanship, and Hermès standards. Responsible for precise alterations, refined hand‑finishing, and supporting fittings, bespoke and made‑to‑measure orders in the Madison boutique. Works closely with sales and store management to advise clients on fit, timelines, care, and project status.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct personalized client fittings and provide expert recommendations to enhance fit and silhouette.
  • Perform a full range of alterations including hemming, tapering, resizing, shortening, lengthening, and reconstruction of complex garments.
  • Execute delicate hand‑stitching and machine sewing techniques on silk, wool, cashmere, leather, and specialty textiles.
  • Operate industrial sewing machines, serger/blind hemmer, button machine, cutting table, and pressing/steaming equipment.
  • Press and finish altered garments and perform quality checks before delivery to ensure impeccable results.
  • Communicate alteration timelines, costs, and garment readiness to clients and store teams; provide on‑the‑spot evaluations when needed.
  • Collaborate with Sales Specialists, Alterations Manager, and MTM/Bespoke Client Development to support the selling process and project follow‑up.
  • Travel domestically and to Paris as required for trunk shows, special events, and training.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of professional tailoring or alterations experience in luxury fashion or high‑end ready‑to‑wear.
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, men’s suiting techniques, and varied fabrications.
  • High level of applied tailoring skills including hand‑finishing and machine sewing on delicate fabrics.
  • Proficiency operating tailor shop equipment and pressing techniques for multiple fabric weights.
  • Excellent client service, communication skills, and ability to advise clients and store personnel.
  • Experience organizing and tracking product and client information; proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft platforms.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and travel as needed.
