Location: New York
Robert Young Architects is a design-forward residential practice based in West Chelsea, known for architecturally ambitious, meticulously crafted work: ground-up houses, apartments, and interiors for clients who care deeply about what gets built. Our projects are primarily in the tri-state area, with a growing national presence. We're a small, serious office where the work gets noticed and the people who do it are known by name.
We’re looking for a Junior or Intermediate Designer who can contribute to all aspects of projects from concept through construction administration and owner move-in. It is expected that as designers gain more experience, they will increase their responsibility, ownership and autonomy over time.
What we’re looking for:
You are passionate about design excellence.
You understand client service and the power of design to enhance lives.
You enjoy iterating through as many “bad” ideas as it takes to get to the one that feels inevitable.
You have a genuine interest in construction and how things actually get built.
You solve problems with inventiveness and simplicity.
You engage with team members and are not afraid to bring your unique perspective to the office.
You communicate clearly and know when to ask questions.
Qualifications:
Professional degree in Architecture from a US-accredited school.
Junior Designers: 2-3 years of post-graduate professional experience;
Intermediate Designers: 4-6+ years of post-graduate experience.Recent involvement in small to medium-sized firms, ideally specializing in private residential projects.
Proficiency with Revit (preferred) & AutoCAD, Rhino or Sketch Up, Enscape, Adobe Suite and Google Workspace. Asana, Smartsheets or Monograph are a plus.
Must reside in the NYC metro area with valid US work authorization and fluency in English.
Compensation commensurate with experience (Junior Designers should expect a salary on the lower end of the noted salary band, while Intermediate Designers would fall on the higher end of the band).
What we offer: Work that matters, on projects that get built and get noticed. An environment where designers are actively supported and encouraged to expand their skillset and become well-rounded architects. Direct access to all aspects of a successful practice, including to the Founder and to senior staff, real responsibility early on, and the satisfaction of actually seeing your details get built.
Competitive compensation commensurate with experience, plus a full benefits package.
