About Us
Stephens Design Group is a high-end interior design studio specializing in luxury residential interiors. Our current projects span New York City, the Hamptons, Aspen, Palm Beach, London and Portugal.
We deliver thoughtfully detailed, elevated interiors from concept through installation, and we're looking for an Intermediate Architectural Designer to join our growing team.
We're seeking a detail-oriented Architectural Designer with a minimum of 4 years of professional experience to take residential projects from schematic design through construction documentation and shop drawing review. This role works directly with the firm's principals and collaborates closely with the interior design staff daily.
Given our national and international project base, frequent travel is required.
Strong technical drafting skills, sharp project management instincts and careful coordination with clients, vendors and contractors are essential.
- Work directly with firm principals to develop and execute design direction across residential projects
- Lead interior architecture scope through schematic design, design development, construction documents and millwork detailing
- Collaborate closely with interior design staff throughout all project phases
- Produce and manage plans, elevations and details in coordination with consultants, general contractors and subcontractors
- Review and redline shop drawings for accuracy and design intent
- Respond to RFI’s in an accurate and efficient manner
- Collaborate with clients, vendors and contractors to keep projects moving and on track
- Source and specify architectural finishes, fixtures, lighting and integrated window treatments
- Coordinate with vendors to procure and return finish samples
- Attend, participate and contribute in project meetings by preparing agendas, taking meeting notes and preparing meeting minutes
- Coordinate with contractors on-site and during construction administration
- Travel regularly for site visits, punch lists and installations
- Maintain project schedules, budgets and documentation standards
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or Interior Design
- Minimum of 4 years of full-time experience at an architecture or interior design firm
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including international travel
- Detail-obsessed
- Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Proficient in producing and managing CD sets and millwork drawings
- Strong drafting skills — plans, elevations and details
- Experience reviewing and redlining shop drawings
- Solid project management skills with proven contractor coordination experience
- Comfortable managing client and vendor relationships directly
- Flexibility to handle multiple project deadlines and make decisions and respond efficiently
- Familiarity with NYC design resources, vendors and building codes
- Proficiency in AutoCAD,Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office programs
