Design Intern – Swimwear (Academic Credit Only)

Location: Midtown Manhattan, NY

Summer 2026

Amerex Group is seeking a creative and detail‑oriented Design Intern to support our Swimwear Design Team
. This internship offers hands‑on experience with the full swimwear development cycle — from trend inspiration to finalized samples — in a fast‑paced, collaborative studio environment.

What You’ll Learn:
  • The full seasonal swimwear development calendar and design workflow
  • Fabrications and construction techniques specific to stretch/swim materials
  • How to interpret and apply industry terminology (e.g., lab dips, strike-offs, placement prints, BOMs)
  • CAD techniques that balance aesthetics and function
  • Basics of fit development and how to evaluate fit samples
  • How to read selling reports and use Excel for tracking and analysis
  • The difference between wholesale swim development and private label/licensed lines
What We’re Looking For:
  • Currently enrolled in a fashion design or related program (academic credit required)
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator (flat sketches)
  • Basic knowledge of Photoshop (for print placement and photo touchups)
  • Organized and detail‑oriented with a strong sense of color and trend awareness
  • Interest in swimwear design and understanding of seasonal influences
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn in a high‑paced environment
What You’ll Do:
  • Support design team with trend and print research, mood boards, and color stories
  • Create and update CADs, line sheets, tech packs, and BOMs
  • Assist with submitting and tracking lab dips, print strike-offs, trims, and approvals
  • Help prepare swatch boards and curated presentation materials for internal teams and buyers
  • Participate in fit reviews and assist in tracking sample revisions

Maintain internal tracking charts and sample organization
  • Office located in Midtown Manhattan
  • We’ll provide documentation to support your school’s internship requirements
Academic Credit:

This internship is unpaid. However, candidates may opt to pursue academic credit through their educational institution. Amerex Group is willing to support a student’s petition for academic credit. Candidates interested in academic credit should note that they may be required to cover associated costs out of pocket.
