Agency MissionMTA Construction & Development (C&D) is responsible for the planning, development, and execution of all capital construction projects across the MTA region. Through centralized oversight and management of the MTA’s $64 billion Capital Program, C&D ensures the efficient delivery of critical infrastructure projects that support the region’s vast transportation network. As part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the largest transportation network in North America, C&D plays a key role in modernizing and expanding services that support 15.3 million residents across New York City, Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut.
C&D is committed to delivering safe, innovative, and cost-effective capital projects that enhance the customer experience and strengthen the reliability and resilience of the MTA system.
This position is eligible for telework, which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.
S ummaryA Senior Architectural Director Level 2 will use advanced architectural knowledge , established experience, and 2D and 3D CAD/BIM skills to prepare and oversee complete design solutions, including non-standard elements.
This position works with principal architects and project management leadership to ensure that projects are understood in terms of scope and schedule. The selected candidate must be a critical thinker with advanced problem-solving skills and a results-oriented and data-driven mindset.
Responsibilities- Must lead a team of architects involved in the concept design, modification, analysis , and construction of MTA C&D projects to produce detailed and accurate drawings and specifications , including for MTA - related infrastructure.
- Must meet internal MTA C&D departments and Agency Owners regarding project goals and timelines.
- Must ensures project plans are in place , progress is continuously monitored, and open issues are tracked and closed.
- Must ensures work is checked for quality, completeness, and adherence to proper architectural codes/standards.
- Must uses various software and programs to develop/review analysis , design, and plan preparation/review.
- Must mentors young architects and designers, leading technical teams while developing staff.
- Must prepares, reviews , and/or approve s proposals, contracts , or cost estimates.
- Must negotiates revisions, changes , and additions to contractual agreements with sub-consultants and clients.
- Must assists the project management team through creative problem-solving, interactions with agency owners, and the completion of tasks to meet the project schedule.
- Must provides construction inspection support and architectural oversight on active construction projects.
- Must works with the Project Management team for project reviews, change procedures, and commercial and project control updates.
- Bachelor of Architecture degree.
- Master's preferred.
- Must have a minimum of fourteen (14) years of related experience
- Must have a minimum of eight (8) years in a management or supervisory role and/or project manager role in a large, multi-faceted organization.
- A registered NYS licensed architect (RA) is required.
- Demonstrated experience in large - scale architectural issues for significant construction projects or projects with highly complex systems is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing designers, contractors, subcontractors, and/or vendors.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the applicable industry and NYS building and design codes and standards.
