We are seeking an experienced Women’s Sweater Designer to join our design team.
The position supports the Senior Design Director to create trend-right commercially viable knitwear collections for both branded and private label accounts.
The ideal candidate has a strong eye for fashion, deep technical knitwear knowledge, and thrives in a fast paced, collaborative environment.
This position is based in our NYC office and requires working on-site.
- Research global runway, retail and market trends to develop seasonal color, stitch, yarn, silhouette and knit construction direction.
- Present seasonal concepts, product direction, and line assortments during internal reviews and customer presentations.
- Create detailed CADs, technical flats, design specifications and tech packs for overseas development.
- Develop presentation boards, CAD presentations, line sheets, and seasonal concept boards for internal reviews and customer presentations.
- Build and maintain seasonal yarn, stitch, knitdown, trim and inspiration libraries.
- Evaluate proto samples, providing detailed comments to ensure design intent, quality, and fit are achieved.
- Adheres to cross functional calendar and attends meetings as required.
- Support cross functional communication between design, production, technical design, sales and merchandising teams.
- Revise styles following customer meetings and market presentations, updating CADs, tech packs and trims details accordingly.
- Partner with overseas factories throughout the development process.
- Manage multiple seasonal calendars while meeting critical development deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design/Sweater
- 5+ year experience of women’s sweater design experience within branded or private label apparel.
- Strong knowledge of yarns, gauges, stitch structures, knit constructions, sweater finishing techniques and garment engineering.
- Strong understanding of seasonal trend research, color direction, and commercial market interpretation.
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Office s& PLM systems.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills with the ability to managed multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented, creative, able to work independently and in a fast-paced team environment.
- Womenswear sweater experience is required.
