Technical Designer — Women’s & Men’s Ready-to-Wear About the Role
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and experienced Technical Designer to support all Women’s and Men’s Ready-to-Wear (RTW) apparel categories. This role is responsible for ensuring the technical execution, fit, construction, and quality of garments meet the brand’s design and product standards from initial concept through final production.
Key Responsibilities- Work closely with the Senior Technical Designer to support the technical development and execution of Women’s and Men’s RTW collections.
- Partner with Design, Product Development, Merchandising, and domestic/international vendors throughout the product lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain accurate technical packages and tech packs for assigned categories and styles.
- Create detailed construction specifications, measurements, Points of Measure (POMs), tolerances, and grading requirements.
- Review samples with the Senior Technical Designer and provide clear, actionable fit and construction comments.
- Participate in fit sessions and communicate fit corrections and technical recommendations to vendors.
- Evaluate garment construction, workmanship, sewing techniques, trims, finishes, and materials.
- Communicate technical corrections clearly to factories and vendors and follow through until issues are resolved.
- Maintain accurate style information, revisions, comments, and approvals within the company’s PLM system.
- Track sample development and ensure all technical information remains current throughout the development process.
- Collaborate with Patternmakers and Product Developers to resolve fit and construction issues.
- Identify potential production issues early and work with the Senior Technical Designer and cross-functional partners to develop solutions.
- Support the transition of styles from development into production while maintaining technical integrity and design intent.
- Manage multiple styles, categories, and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- 4+ years of experience in Technical Design for apparel/RTW, preferably across both Women’s and Men’s categories.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, pattern making, sewing techniques, and apparel manufacturing.
- Experience working across multiple RTW categories, including woven and knit garments.
- Strong understanding of measurements, specifications, tolerances, grading, and garment fit.
- PLM experience is required, with the ability to create, update, and maintain technical product information.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to read and interpret patterns, construction details, and technical drawings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and vendors.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; experience with apparel CAD or technical design software is a plus.
- The successful candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented problem solver who understands how a garment should be constructed from concept through production. You will work closely with the Senior Technical Designer and cross-functional teams to ensure products meet the brand’s standards for fit, construction, quality, and execution.
- You have a strong eye for fit, proportion, construction, and quality, and understand how technical decisions affect both the appearance and manufacturability of a garment.
