The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Public Buildings, Architecture and Engineering seeks an experienced Architect. Reporting to the Director and Deputy Directors of the Architecture Unit, the selected candidate shall be responsible for project scope development; existing conditions and forensic analysis; the review of design and construction documents prepared by consultants; and the preparation and review of documents and construction administration for in-house design projects.

As Team Leader, the selected candidate shall coordinate the work of multi-disciplinary teams to ensure compliance with project schedules, budgets, and applicable codes. The selected candidate must be thoroughly knowledgeable of design principles, industry best practices, building codes, project delivery methodologies, and the latest technologies and innovations in the field. The selected candidate will interface with sponsors, consultants, contractors, project managers, and other technical staff.

All candidates must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.). In compliance with Public Law 99-603, candidates are required to present original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S. DDC is unable to support or sponsor any visa application or visa extension, including but not limited to OPT/STEM visas, H-1B visas, F-1 practical training, permanent residence sponsorship, or any proposed change of visa type.

DDC does not offer a training program as required by U.S. immigration law and is not hiring temporary employees. Candidates must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made. Additionally, educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution. Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service. Minimum Qualifications

A valid New York State Registration as an Architect is required. In addition, candidates must have six (6) years of full-time paid experience in architectural work, at least two (2) years of which shall have been as an administrative architect.

Preferred Skills

Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of 10 years of full-time experience as a Registered Architect. The ideal candidate should have experience in new construction and renovation work. Previous experience should include scope development, preparing and reviewing design and construction documents, and construction administration. Good verbal and written communication skills and knowledge of NYC Building code and computer-aided drafting are essential.

Good interpersonal skills in dealing with clients, consultants, contractors, team members and managers are required. Auto Cad experience required, Bluebeam Revu and Revit preferred, LEED accreditation preferred.
