IMEG is hiring a Planning Intern in Long Island, NY to support the planning team with research, data collection, and community engagement efforts that contribute to the development and implementation of planning initiatives. Over the course of 10-12 weeks this internship offers hands‑on experience supporting active planning work and learning how projects move from analysis to implementation.
In this role, you will help prepare maps, reports, and planning documents, participate in public meetings and workshops, conduct site visits, and support the review of zoning applications and community plans. You will also work alongside senior planners and contribute to projects tied to environmental, municipal, and wastewater markets across Long Island and New York City.

- Assist with research on planning issues, including demographic trends, land use patterns, and environmental impacts
- Help prepare maps, reports, and planning documents using GIS software and other tools
- Participate in public meetings and workshops to gather community input and share information on planning initiatives
- Assist in reviewing zoning applications and community plans for compliance with local regulations and ordinances
- Conduct site visits to gather data and assess compliance with planning regulations
- Work with public officials, developers, and community members to support planning projects
- Help prepare reports and presentations to communicate planning proposals and findings to stakeholders
- Provide support to senior planners in managing planning projects and initiatives
- Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Planning, Environment Studies, Architecture, or Arts, or equivalent required
- Experience with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Adobe Suite, and Sketch Up
- Strong interest in design consulting
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Prior internship experience in the consulting industry preferred
- Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull
- Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises
- New York-based civil and environmental team skewed toward municipal and wastewater work
- Sewer engineering, SWPPP, and community‑infrastructure design across Long Island and NYC
- Higher‑education and healthcare projects including LIU, St. Joseph's University, and Southampton Hospital
- Landscape architecture, planning, and environmental services in‑house
- Recent work includes Great Neck Water Pollution Control Sewer, Government; LIU College of Science, Education; and Southampton Hospital EOR, Healthcare.
