Understory creates ecological landscape designs across a range of project types and scales. We foster a collaborative environment and design process that elevates creativity, research, intuition, beauty, horticulture, and the contemporary expression of ecological systems to create impactful landscape interventions.
We are seeking a curious, creative, highly intuitive individual with a keen sense of humor and sharp critical thinking skills.
The ideal candidate possesses the desire, skills, judgment, creativity, and capability to carry out design and production on the full range of the practice’s work from research, concept studies, graphics, and renderings to construction documentation, detailing, specifications, and construction administration. The position will also entail contributing to non-project work that may include marketing, promotional materials, and site visits with travel within the region.
Candidates should demonstrate the following:
- Facility with grading, planting design, detailing, and construction documents
- Graphic sensibility – illustrative plans, diagrams, and perspective / 3D renderings
- Facility in crafting design presentations, sourcing design precedents, and graphic layout
- Experience communicating professionally with clients and consultants
- High level of English language written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of native and adaptive plants (Northeastern US)
- Ability to multitask and manage workload across multiple projects simultaneously
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Adobe CC, Microsoft Word and Excel
- Proficiency with Rhino, Lumion or other 3D/rendering programs
Bachelors in Landscape Architecture (BLA) or graduate degree (MLA) from an accredited Landscape Architecture program.
