Camia Brown Interiors | Brooklyn, NY | Hybrid / Mostly Remote

Approximately 20 hours per week | Potential for Growth

Camia Brown Interiors is a Brooklyn-based, full-service interior design studio creating thoughtful, expressive, and highly personal residential, hospitality, commercial, and community-focused spaces.

We are growing and looking for a talented Part-time Interior Designer / Project Designer to work closely with our Founder and Principal across several active and upcoming projects.

What You'll Do
  • Develop design concepts and translate creative direction into cohesive presentations.
  • Source furniture, lighting, plumbing, tile, stone, finishes, accessories, and other FF&E.
  • Create and develop floor plans, furniture plans, elevations, and design details.
  • Assist with custom millwork and cabinetry development.
  • Research products, pricing, availability, lead times, and alternates.
  • Prepare client presentations and specification materials in Canva and other platforms.
  • Visit NYC showrooms, vendors, fabricators, and project sites as needed.
  • Conduct sit tests and evaluate furniture, materials, finishes, and samples in person.
  • Communicate with vendors and obtain quotes, samples, specifications, and product information.
  • Assist with procurement, order tracking, expediting, and installation coordination.
  • Maintain project schedules, specifications, selections, and design documentation.
  • Coordinate with contractors, mill workers, architects, consultants, and other project partners as needed.
  • Help troubleshoot design and field conditions as projects move through construction.
  • Participate in client meetings and site visits when appropriate.
  • Support multiple residential and commercial projects simultaneously.
Who We're Looking For
  • Experienced in residential and/or commercial interior design.
  • Strong in space planning and furniture layouts.
  • Comfortable developing elevations and design details.
  • Knowledgeable about furniture, lighting, materials, finishes, and vendors.
  • Able to source across different budgets without sacrificing the integrity of the design.
  • Comfortable thinking through custom cabinetry and millwork.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Detail-oriented and proactive about following through.
  • Comfortable communicating with clients, vendors, contractors, and trades.
  • Collaborative, personable, curious, and confident.
  • Excited by color, pattern, texture, and expressive design.
  • Able to receive creative direction while also contributing your own ideas and perspective.
  • Comfortable working independently in a primarily remote environment.
Technical Skills Required
  • AutoCAD
  • Google Workspace
  • Microsoft Office
  • Strong sourcing and specification skills
  • Ability to read and develop interior design drawings
Strong Plus
  • Revit
  • 3D modeling and rendering
  • Experience with commercial or hospitality projects
  • Strong familiarity with NYC-area showrooms, vendors, and trade resources
Experience

We are less concerned with a specific number of years than we are with your ability to demonstrate that you can independently contribute to active design projects.

An intermediate designer with approximately 3-7+ years of professional interior design experience will likely be the strongest fit, but we are open to someone outside that range with an exceptional portfolio and the right experience.

A degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.

Location & Schedule

This is a part-time position averaging approximately 20 hours per week, with hours potentially increasing or decreasing depending on project workload.

The position is primarily remote, but you must be local to New York City and available for in-person project needs, including site visits, showroom appointments, sourcing trips, installations, and vendor meetings.

Brooklyn-based candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

Some flexibility in scheduling is important. There is potential for this position to grow into a larger or full-time role as the firm and project pipeline continue to expand.

Compensation

Hourly, commensurate with experience and capabilities.
