Azar Design Co, a multidisciplinary architecture, engineering, and construction services firm with over 45 years of experience, is seeking an experienced Project Manager - Architecture/Design for our Manhattan office. The position will focus on healthcare and higher education projects and will lead projects from planning and design through construction administration. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on project leader with strong experience managing architectural projects, multidisciplinary teams, clients, and consultants while ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to Azar’s quality standards.
Responsibilities- Demonstrated experience managing complex healthcare and/or higher education projects, preferably in active or occupied environments.
- Experience with hospitals, medical/outpatient facilities, research/laboratory buildings, universities, colleges, and campus facilities.
- Experience with renovations, additions, phased construction, and complex project logistics.
- Strong ability to coordinate with institutional clients, healthcare systems, universities, public agencies, consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Lead and manage architectural projects from programming and conceptual design through construction administration and project closeout.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, and staffing requirements.
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, including architectural, structural, MEP, civil, and specialty consultants.
- Review and oversee the development of drawings, specifications, reports, presentations, and other project deliverables.
- Coordinate design development and ensure consistency and quality across all disciplines.
- Conduct and lead project meetings, prepare agendas, document decisions, and track action items.
- Manage client communications and facilitate timely resolution of design and project issues.
- Review construction documents for quality, coordination, constructability, and compliance with applicable codes and project requirements.
- Support permitting, agency coordination, and regulatory approvals.
- Provide construction administration services, including submittal/RFI review, site observations, field coordination, and resolution of construction-related issues.
- Assist with proposal development, fee preparation, project planning, and business development activities.
- Mentor and provide directions to junior architectural staff.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients and contribute to repeat business and new opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture required; RA preferred or actively pursuing licensure.
- 10+ years of architectural experience with proven project management experience, particularly in healthcare and/or higher education.
- Proven ability to manage projects from design through construction administration.
- Strong knowledge of building codes, construction documents, specifications, and architectural detailing.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and consultants, including managing project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
- NYC project/DOB experience and public‑sector or institutional project experience preferred.
