The Kids Assistant Technical Designer supports the Technical Design team in developing childrens' apparel that meets fit, safety, quality, and brand standards. This role assists with fit sessions, technical documentation, and sample management, ensuring products align with age-specific sizing, comfort, and durability requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesFit & Garment Development
- Assist in preparing samples, specs, and materials for kids' fit sessions
- Take detailed fit notes, including movement, comfort, and growth considerations
- Support evaluation of garment fit, balance, and construction with guidance from senior team members
- Help maintain consistency across kids size ranges (infant, toddler, boys, girls)
- Assist in creating and updating development package, including:
- Points of Measure (POMs)
- Age-appropriate sizing and grading
- Construction and trim details
- Maintain accurate measurement specs and tolerances
- Support updates to fit standards and block libraries
- Track development samples (proto, fit, PP samples)
- Organize and maintain sample inventory
- Ensure samples are ready for fit sessions and cross-functional meetings
- Follow up on sample status and deadlines
- Support communication with global vendors and factories
- Help send fit comments, measurement updates, and construction details
- Ensure clarity around kids-specific needs such as durability, safety trims, and labeling
- Partner with Design to ensure garments meet aesthetic and functional expectations
- Support Product Development with cost and feasibility considerations
- Coordinate with QA teams to meet safety and compliance standards
- Assist in ensuring garments meet child safety regulations (e.g., CPSIA guidelines)
- Support reviews of trims, embellishments, and closures for safety risks
- Help ensure proper labeling and age grading standards
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or related field preferred
- 0-2 years of experience (internships or coursework acceptable)
- Exposure to childrens' apparel or product development is a plus
- Basic understanding of garment construction and fit
- Familiarity with kids sizing and growth allowances (preferred)
- Knowledge of pattern making fundamentals (a plus)
- Adobe Illustrator
- Microsoft Excel
- PLM systems (e.g., FlexPLM, Centric) preferred
- Strong attention to detail
- Highly organized with ability to track multiple styles
- Good communication and follow-up skills
- Eagerness to learn and grow within technical design
